Weekend Getaway: Dieppe

My boyfriend asked a friend to see if their apartment was available for a little weekend getaway in Dieppe, a town on the English Channel. We were looking to do a mini weekend away fro, the hustle and bustle of the big city. We were looking to take this time over the Easter holiday weekend towards the end of April.

During our afternoon walks, we’d stumble across the ferry either coming in to port or leaving with the next round of travelers. It was so fun to watch this behemoth maneuver in and out of the dock. During the summer months, the ferry makes the trip back and forth to Newhaven three times a day. Arrival times into the Dieppe harbor are 5 AM, 2PM, and 10:30 PM. The trip is 4 hours in total with the boarding time 11 AM, 4:30 PM, and 10:30 PM. I think the next time we have more freedom to maneuver about we should pop on over and explore Newhaven.

The beach in the evening allowed the perfect setting for the most gorgeous sunsets! The evening sky was painted with breathtaking colors of reds, pinks and oranges. And there’s something magical about watching a sunset over a channel. I haven’t seen anything like this before. Certainly beats the sunsets on the beach at Grandma and Grandpa’s.

One day we hiked all the way to the other side of the beach front and up to the chateau, which is now a museum that holds the most impressive collection of ivory artifacts as well as a temporary art exhibit, a collection of maritime relics, and an exquisite example of taxidermy from birds to mammals and amphibians. The grounds the chateau is situated on are atop of a hill on the opposite side of marina and if you hike behind the chateau the most breath-taking view of the entire city is available!

Since it was Easter weekend, we treated ourselves to a lovely Easter lunch. We ate at the ever lovely New Haven Restaurant at the last available table on the patio. Even though it was in part sun, it was well worth it! We ordered off the lunch menu and let me tell you it did not disappoint! We both ordered the Menu de la Jetée for 26,90 € and it was quite the feast! You had your choice of the following: Entrée, Plat, Fromage, and Dessert. I chose an assorted fruits de mer for my entrée, the coquilles saint jacques for my plat, the cheese plate was an assorted plate of 3 cheeses and the dessert was an apple tart. We ate so much that we asked to have our desserts boxed up so we could enjoy them at a later time. We definitely needed to walk off that feast and take a nap!
